This weekend (march 30-03-24) we started the Diaspora Masterclass for International development Co-operation. I am giving this Masterclass in collaboration with Stichting Wilde Ganzen.
We will offer 3 modules: Governance, Communication and Fundraising. With this we want to contribute to increasing the capacity of Diaspora organizations because we believe that they play a very important role within International Development Cooperation.
The first session was about Governance. This concerns how your organization (foundation) is organized. So what does your board look like, what do your articles of association (Statuten) say? How do you comply with this, who does what within your organization, who controls the work and how do you evaluate everything? This is a small summary of important points for Governance, but it is especially important that the outside world can clearly see the structure and division of tasks within your organization and that you have things well organized, even if projects are less successful.
During the Masterclass, the diaspora organizations had to review their Governance and set goals to improve it if necessary. It was noticeable that there was a great need to discuss how things are going within everyone's initiative (organization) and that was nice to see. I think it was a good start to the Masterclass and I look forward to the next session.
